NBA playoff bracket challenge

Sixteen teams, four best-of-seven rounds, one bracket you run.

Your people pick the winner of every series before the first game, and the leaderboard moves as each series ends. Our team builds the bracket once the play-in settles the field and records every series result, under your logo and colors.

Free to start. No credit card.

The playoffs your bracket is built on.

Who gets in
Six teams per conference on record, plus two more from the play-in tournament that seventh to tenth place play. That makes 16 playoff teams.
The bracket
Eight teams a side, four rounds and 15 series from the first round to the NBA Finals. The NBA does not reseed between rounds, so the route is set once the 16 are known.
Every series
Best of seven. A pick names the team that wins the series, not the game count.
When it opens
After the play-in tournament finishes, because the last two names in each conference come out of it.
Points
Each correct pick scores its round number: 1, 2, 3 or 4. The correct champion adds 10. A perfect bracket scores 36.

How an NBA playoff bracket challenge runs on Fanzava.

  1. Wait for the play-in, then ask for the bracket.

The field is not set until the play-in tournament ends. Our team builds the 16-team bracket from the bracket the NBA publishes, seeds and all, so your people see real series rather than a blank grid.

  2. Everyone picks all four rounds at once.

One lock time covers the whole bracket, so set it before the first round starts. Reminders go out before lock, and nobody sees how the rest of the group picked until then. Auto-fill can start a bracket from the higher seeds or at random.

  3. We record each series when it ends.

A series is up to seven games between the same two teams, so our team records the winner once the series is decided, the winner moves into the next round and every bracket is rescored.

  4. The leaderboard carries the trash talk.

Each person's best bracket ranks on the leaderboard. Bracket pools let a department, a fantasy league or a group chat run its own standings inside your challenge, and the Banter Board gives the loudest one somewhere to say so.

Scoring decisions an NBA playoff bracket forces.

Sixteen teams make a shallow bracket. A few rules decide whether it stays interesting into the conference finals.

Why later rounds are worth more.

Eight first-round series is half the bracket. Fanzava scores one point times the round number, so the Finals pick is worth 4 and the right champion adds 10. The weighting is the same for every bracket and is not set per pool.

No upset bonus.

Some pools pay extra for backing the lower seed. Fanzava does not: points follow the round, not the seed. An eighth seed beating the one seed is still only a first-round point, which is why the champion pick carries the contest.

Why the champion pick matters.

Ten points is more than any single round is worth, so a bracket whose champion is alive stays in contention after a rough first round. When the champion you backed goes out, the leaderboard shows it and that person is emailed once.

Several brackets each, or one.

One per person is the default and keeps the conversation simple. You can allow up to five, and the best bracket is the one that counts. Ask for the limit before the bracket opens.

Play-in teams and the last two seeds.

The play-in decides two seeds in each conference late, and a bracket cannot start without those names. Opening after the play-in shortens your entry window and ends any argument about what a play-in loss does to a pick.

Why run it yourself.

Two months of attention from one setup.

The playoffs run from April into June. A bracket hub with pools and a leaderboard holds a group for the whole stretch, where a one-time poll does not.

It sits next to your regular season pick'em.

If you already run an NBA pick'em for the regular season, the bracket is a separate pool in the same hub, with its own leaderboard and the same participants.

Your brand on every screen.

Paid plans and a Bracket Pass ship full white label. Pro and above add a custom domain and a custom email sender, so the lock reminder and round results arrive from you.

A free social game.

Entry is free and Fanzava never handles entry money. People make picks and a leaderboard ranks them.

Questions NBA bracket challenge organizers ask.

Is this the official NBA bracket challenge?
No. The official bracket, schedule and results are on nba.com, which we link to at the top of this page. Fanzava runs a challenge your own group enters, under your brand.
When does the bracket open?
After the play-in tournament ends and all 16 teams are set. That is shortly before the first round starts, so ask for the bracket early and lock it before game one.
Can people pick the series length?
No. Each pick names the team that wins the series. There are no game-count picks.
Who enters the results?
Our team builds the bracket and records the winner of each series once it is decided. You do not enter anything.
Is this the same as an NBA pick'em?
No. A pick'em asks for a winner in every game across the season. A bracket asks for every series of the playoffs once, before they start. They run as separate pools in the same hub.
Can I print an NBA playoff bracket?
Yes. The free bracket maker prints a clean blank 16-team bracket for the office wall before you run the live version.
What does it cost?
Brackets are not on the Free plan. Run one on Starter or above, or buy a one-time Bracket Pass for the event. The prices are in the Bracket Pass panel on this page.
Does money change hands?
No. Entry is free and Fanzava never handles entry money. It is a free social game where people make picks and a leaderboard ranks them.
