NHL playoff bracket challenge

A Stanley Cup bracket your group fills in once and argues about for two months.

Sixteen teams, four best-of-seven rounds and a divisional bracket that never reseeds. Your people pick every series before the first puck drops. Our team builds the bracket once the field is set and records each series result, under your logo and colors.

The playoffs your bracket is built on.

Who gets in
16 teams, eight per conference: the top three in each division plus two wild cards per conference.
First round
Each division winner plays a wild card and second plays third inside each division. The division winner with the better record draws the lower wild card.
The bracket
Divisional and fixed. The path stays inside the division until the conference final, with no reseeding between rounds.
Every round
Best of seven, four rounds, 15 series from the first round to the Stanley Cup Final.
2026/27 timing
The regular season ends on April 10, 2027. The playoffs start in April and the Final is played in June.
Overtime
Sudden death in the playoffs, so no shootouts and no loser point. Every game has a winner and every series ends with one.
Points
Each correct pick scores its round number: 1, 2, 3 or 4. The correct champion adds 10. A perfect bracket scores 36.

How a Stanley Cup bracket challenge runs on Fanzava.

  1. Ask for the bracket once the field is set.

The 16 teams are known when the regular season ends on April 10, 2027. Our team builds the bracket from the published matchups, seeds and all, so your people see the real first-round series.

  2. Everyone picks all four rounds at once.

One lock time covers the whole bracket. Set it before puck drop of the first game. Reminders go out before lock, nobody sees anyone else's picks until then, and auto-fill can start from the higher seeds or at random.

  3. We record each series when it ends.

A series is up to seven games between the same two teams, so our team records the winner once it is decided. The winner moves on and every bracket is rescored.

  4. The leaderboard carries the talk.

Each person's best bracket ranks on the leaderboard. Bracket pools let a department, an office or a fantasy league run their own standings inside your challenge.

Scoring decisions a Stanley Cup bracket forces.

The divisional bracket is the feature that sets this apart from the NBA. A wrong call in the first round can take out a whole path.

A fixed divisional bracket punishes one bad pick.

There is no reseeding, so each division's route is set once the first round is, and winners meet inside the division until the conference final. Every pick therefore feeds the next: a wrong first-round pick also breaks the second-round pick that depended on it, which is how one bad series costs several points.

Round weighting keeps later rounds alive.

Fanzava scores one point times the round number, so a first-round pick is worth 1 and the Final pick is worth 4, with 10 more for the champion. It is the same for every bracket and is not set per pool.

Wild cards are where people split.

The two wild cards in each conference are the lowest seeds, and the first round pairs them with the division winners. Backing one is the classic upset pick. There is no upset bonus, so it is worth one point, like any other first-round series.

Best of seven changes what a pick means.

A longer series gives the better team more chances to recover than a single game does. The pick is the team that wins the series, not the number of games.

One bracket each, or up to five.

One per person is the default. You can allow up to five and the best bracket is the one that counts. Ask for the limit before it opens so everyone starts equal.

Why run it yourself.

Two months from one setup.

The playoffs run from April into June, long enough to hold a group and short enough to finish. There is nothing to maintain between series.

It sits beside your season pick'em.

If you already run NHL pick'em across the regular season, the bracket is a separate pool in the same hub, with its own leaderboard and the same people.

When can we start a Stanley Cup bracket challenge?
Once the 16 teams and the first-round matchups are known, which follows the end of the regular season on April 10, 2027. Ask for the bracket early and set the lock before the first puck drop.
Does the bracket reseed between rounds?
No. The NHL playoff bracket is divisional and fixed, so the route is set once the first round is. Your bracket matches it.
Who enters the results?
Our team builds the bracket and records the winner of each series once it is decided. You do not enter anything.
Can we pick the number of games?
No. Each pick names the team that wins the series.
Can I print a playoff hockey bracket?
Yes. The free bracket maker prints a clean blank 16-team bracket you can pin up before you run the live version.
What does it cost?
Brackets are not on the Free plan. Run one on Starter or above, or buy a one-time Bracket Pass for the event. The prices are in the Bracket Pass panel on this page.
